Achieve, a digital personal finance company, surveyed 2,000 Americans about their debts.

The answers paint a grim picture of people who are anxious and overwhelmed by debts that often seem to keep growing. The survey found:

  • 50% of respondents feel anxious about their debt
  • 49% have trouble sleeping because of their debt
  • 43% feel hopeless about their financial situation

The report also found that 39% of Americans feel embarrassed about carrying debt — even though roughly two-thirds of their fellow Americans are in the same position.
